A GIS tool for modeling anthropogenic noise propagation in natural ecosystems
نویسندگان
چکیده
SPreAD-GIS is a tool for modeling spatial patterns of anthropogenic noise propagation in natural ecosystems. SPreAD-GIS incorporates commonly available datasets on land cover, topography, and weather conditions to calculate noise propagation patterns and excess noise above ambient conditions for one-third octave frequency bands around one or multiple sound sources. User-specified noise source characteristics, ambient sound conditions, and frequency-weighting make SPreAD-GIS flexible to incorporate field measurements and model noise propagation for any type of source, environment, or species. SPreAD-GIS is a free, open-source application written in Python and implemented as a toolbox in

The most common sources of environmental noise are human transportation systems which can have catastrophic effects on physiology and behavior of wildlife species. Spatial models of noise propagation from roads in ecological sensitive region could be very useful tools for prediction of roads impacts. The goal of our study was to apply a straightforward, accurate, and affordable approach for mod...
متن کاملAn Integrated Methodology for Assessment and Mapping of Land Degradation Risk in Markazi Province, Iran
Desertification is recognized as a serious environmental threat in Iran because of its climatic-geomorphologicconditions. Desertification and land degradation in arid, semi-arid, and dry sub-humid regions, is a globalenvironmental problem. Accurate assessment of the status and trend of desertification is instrumental in developingglobal strategies to prevent and reverse this problem. The goal o...
متن کاملStudy of Noise Map and its Features in an Indoor Work Environment through GIS-Based Software
Background: Noise mapping in industry can be useful to assess the risks of harmful noise, or to monitor noise in machine rooms. Using GIS -based software for plot of noise maps in an indoor noisy work environment can be helpful for occupational hygienists to monitor noise pollution. Methods: This study was carried out in noisy packaging unit of a food industry in Ghazvin industrial zone, to ev...
متن کاملIntegrating Oceanographic Models with Gis - Roms and Beyond
1. INTRODUCTION Models provide a way to understand and predict the behavior of natural systems. Ocean-atmosphere models such as the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) are intended to provide a multipurpose , multidisciplinary oceanic modeling tool. Fisheries models provide ways to study simplified versions of complex ecosystems. While models provide greater understanding, the results can be ...
متن کاملLinking Water Quality and Quantity in Environmental Flow Assessment in Deteriorated Ecosystems: A Food Web View
Most rivers worldwide are highly regulated by anthropogenic activities through flow regulation and water pollution. Environmental flow regulation is used to reduce the effects of anthropogenic activities on aquatic ecosystems. Formulating flow alteration-ecological response relationships is a key factor in environmental flow assessment. Traditional environmental flow models are characterized by...
